Renovation in Progress (part 1)

After 3 designs I made, hubbs agreed we should demolish the kitchen walls and close up the laundry balcony. This would at least make our kitchen slightly bigger.

We had to design the kitchen with the exact measurement to fit our choice of IKEA kitchen cabinets. The renovation details must be followed by our contractor to the dot - this was vital to fit Ikea's wall cabinets and base cabinets.

Finally on 19 May 2014 - our kitchen renovations were on the way.

We hacked the wall to the laundry/balcony

as well as the wall facing the living room.

Yikes! We hadn't had time to remove our living room furniture as there was no space in our 3 little rooms.. The living room, dining area and balcony were filled up with cement dust! Word of advise: clear out your home to avoid cleaning the dust on your furniture!!

Some picts of the renovation (may contain dust) Hacking of walls and reshaping:

Reshaping and cementing of the laundry balcony is done. We closed off the kitchen entry from the living room. The door is now facing the hallway. Brackets have been put up for plaster ceiling.

Tiles were being removed to shape the walls and floor.  When the plaster ceiling was done, we have added the small ventilation outlet for the cooker hood and the bath/kitchen blower.

Next, the remaining floor tiles have been removed and thereafter concrete is being poured on to the floor to level them.

We have also removed the bathroom window overlooking the kitchen from the laundry balcony. Plaster ceiling was also installed in the bathroom to add a blower that is attached to the kitchen's ducting ventilation.
